Why I Write

You’ve written that book. It’s edited, published (Self-published or traditional). People like your book. They love the characters and the story and yearn for more. You’re on cloud nine and so you should be.

However, for myself and probably a lot of other writers out there, unless it makes you rich, the adulations you receive, can be fleeting. It won’t last forever. What does endure however, is the thrill of actually telling a story, and a good one. A story that will stand the test of time. Knowing that people down the road may be reading and enjoying your written word long after you are gone, is a tremendous thrill in itself. Ultimately, we write stories, not because we like to sell them, but rather because we like to tell them. I do it because I love it and though the world is changing rapidly, to me, stories still matter.
